Well, it depends on the situation. Mostly Motherboards with small faults boot without any problem. When a Motherboard encounters a major problem, you can identify it at the time the PC boots up cause, the BIOS will alert you with a message, the problem caused.

If BIOS did not detect a problem and went past the POST Screen, then you need not worry cause, if BIOS was successful then, its ok.

But usually, the first place to get to know that the motherboard is bad is by the BIOS which will alert you automatically.

But if your motherboard is totally dead or completely bad then, it will not even boot up or the light indicator in the motherboard will not light. If this is the case, then it concludes that your motherboard is dead.

You usually conclude that a motherboard is bad if all other possibilities have been exhausted. A computer with a bad motherboard most likely won't turn on and definitely won't make it past POST.

That is a vague question but you'll probably notice you won't be able to either boot up your computer to finding problems with various hardware on your system!
