I suppose it's because it reminds me of my childhood when I used to run around in the rain and also because those big snails come out after the first rain and I like them...

Down here in Australia, we are experiencing the worst drought in over 100 years. I can't honestly say that I have ever smelt the mud, the rain just washes over the ground because it is so dry. The first thing you do smell however, is the roads after having been so dry for so long. In NZ its totally different and the smell of wet grass is so refreshing. Rain, rain we desperately need it.........

I love the smell of the mud the first rain, it's got a sweet aroma to it. I reminds me of when I was a child... My sisters and I would go down the street and climb through the tunnels catching crawdads, and tadpoles. We'd even take a bucket bring them home and put them in our sheep trough. Soon we'd have frogs galore. The one thing I don't like about it is that it always seems to get the worst of my allergies. What about you???

I love the smell after the first rain. It reminds me of being about 4 years old. I had this yellow raincoat with red birds on it. I was so proud of this thing. We didn't have a lot of money and my mom bought it for me brand new for preschool. I would pray for rain just so I could wear it. I loved the sound that it made when I moved - that crinkle of the vinyl as it creased and uncreased.
