The record for most sixes in the world cup was held by Saurav Ganguly of India prior to this world cup. However, that record has been broken in this world cup. Presently maximum sixes in the cricket world cup hasve been scored by R.T. Ponting of Australia with 29 sixes from 33 Innings.
The record for most sixes in an innings is also held by R.T. Point and Imran Nazir with 8 sixes each

Ricky Ponting hold this record - he has hit 27 sixes from 31 matches. At second place is Ganguly with 31 from 21 matches. Viv Richards is at number 3 with 22 from 23 matches.
I don't think this record can be broken during this World Cup because from the remaining teams, only GIbbs and Jayasuriya are in the ranking for the most sixes, and even then, they are too far behind Ponting.

At the time of writing, Mathew Hayden holds it for the current world cup, overall I think it is Ricky Ponting. Gibbs and Jayasuriya come in close.
