3/1 - 2/9
27/9 - 2/9 (cross multiply - get a common denominator by multiplying them together. And whatever I do to the bottom I must do to the top)
Therefore Answer = 25/9

3/8 = 6/16 = 9/24 (General Rule: Whatever you do to the top you must do to the bottom. Vice Versa. For example, you multiply 3 by 2 to get 6, therefore, you must multiply 8 by 2 which is equal to 16).

5.3 + ___ = 6
6 - 5.3 = ___
0.7 = ___
(The value that you want to find must be kept on its own. So to do this, you move the 5.3 to the right hand side and because 5.3 is positive you invert the symbol and make it negative. Therefore it becomes 6 - 5.3.
Another example: ___ - 3 = 12
Worked Solution: Move the 3 to the right hand side and because 3 is negative, change it to positive. So it becomes:
12 + 3 = ___
Therefore, 15 = ___

Take 1 from the 3 and change it to a fraction with denominator 9: Now you have 2 and 9/9

Now 9/9 minus 2/9 = 7/9

One was taken from the 3, so you are left with 2. So the answer is 2 and 7/9.

3/8 = 6/? : The numerator 3 was multiplied by 2 to get 6. Therefore, the denominator also has to be multiplied by 2, which is 8 x 2 = 16. So the answer is

3/8 = 6/16.

Now 3/8 = ?/24: The denominator 8 was multiplied by 3 to get 24. Therefore, the numerator too has to be multiplied by 3, which is 3 x 3 = 9. So the answer is

3/8 = 9/24.

Therefore: 3/8 = 6/16 = 9/24

5.3 + ____ = 6

Subtract 5.3 from both sides of the equation. You get
6 - 5.3 = ______

6 = 6.0 , borrow 1 from the 6 and you have 10 instead of 0 in the decimal place now. Therefore: 10 - 3 = 7

One was taken from the 6, so you are left with 5 in the whole number place. Subtract the whole numbers: 5 - 5 = 0

So you have 0 in the whole number place, and 7 in the decimal place. So

6 - 5.3 = 0.7

Seriously? Ok.

2/9 is just 7/9 short of 1, right? So 3 - 2/9 = 2 7/9.

You could also find the LCD:

3/1 - 2/9
[multiply the left side (top and bottom) by the denominator (bottom) on the right] = 27/9 - 2/9
[now subtract the numerators (tops)] = 25/9
[then divide]25/9 = 2 r7
[answer] = 2 7/9

AND

These, you just multiply to find the answer:

3/8 = 6/16 [it is just doubled (3/8 x 2)]
6/16 = 9/24 (or 3/8 x 3)

AND

This one is pretty easy. Remember, even whole (non-decimal) numbers have a decimal place, it is zero.

So:

5.3 + __ = 6.0 can also be written:

6.0 - 5.3 = __ , and your answer would be 0.7 [You can even remove the decimals (60 - 53 = 7) just remember to put it back in!]

Hope this helps!
