If all the teams are allowed to play against each other then the worldcup will be a very long affair.
If all the teams are divided into 4 groups and pick only the winners to go to semi finals then it is unfair if two strong teams fall in to one group.
Even the super 8 format has failed in the case of two good teams with a lesser team who could make an upset. Without India and Pakistan world cup is making heavy losses in Revenue.
May be a look at Soccer World Cup would be a good idea.

This world cup is too long to the extent I get doubt whether WI are sill in the game.It is a long time since i saw them play.It appears every team will have a long lay-off some where.
The duration of Tournament could have been trimmed,But doing away with super8 will make it too short like Champions Trophy.

With the early exit of India and Pakistan from the world cup, whoever wins the world cup cannot have the credit as best team in the world as they have not played against India and Pakistan. Though India and Pakistan were knocked out early, who knows they could have also bounced back and caused upsets. If any team has to be rated as the best team in the world in the world cup, it can be done so if they have won the world cup after defeating all the top 8 teams in the world.

This is good actually.
Its carried on for a longer time. Maybe, next time, they can put the quallified 8 into groups of 4. And then, out of the 2 in a group, 1 can be selected for semi finals. This way, there'll be less no. of matches.
