firstly i think this is asking people to help with your homework. Go and write your own essay.
secondly, i think it should be made compulsory but there should be a really wide range to choose from, so that all levels of involvement can be catered for - everything from badminton to frisbee.

I think it is a bad idea. Decades of required gym classes have turned most Americans off regular exercise, compared to most countries in which sports are not a part of the curriculum. Mandating something usually makes it less appealing. Add to that the fact that you are specifically saying "competitive" sports - why not just some form of activity? Our focus on competition is often cited for our inability to work well with others.

I agree with the idea of requiring students to take at least one class a year involving some kind of extensive physical activity; I think it would help to lessen the amount of obesity seen in the world today. As for making Americans disliking exercise as a result, I find that to be an excellent excuse; if they want to have a good, healthy lifestyle, regular physical activity helps greatly.

No it should be voluntary. It would turn students off exercise altogether. In Australia we have Physical Ed classes and voluntary sports activities which you can do if you want to for your school.

sports yes, competitive, no. Recreational is enough, as school is already competitive enough at the high school age.
