I read in one hospital they have been told to turn the bed sheets over,(when they can),rather than wash them for new patients ,to save money on the laundry bill. no wonder mrsa is on the increase.
and they have taken out every third light bulb in corridors, to save on the electric bill.
Where does all this money go?

Firstly: Administration ... as an example. A local Hospital decided it was not going to renew 20 nurse post contracts, on the same day there was an advert in the local paper for 3 Administrators, with company cars, with a combined wage of more than those 20 nurses.

Secondly: Medical supplies ... In many cases there are vested interests in using certain medical suppliers, not by any means the cheapest option.

Thirdly: Constant messing around with the NHS, causing unrest and mismanagement.

And more: A national computer system that never worked.

The government has made it clear that Money is the only thing that matters, not people. The simple fact that there are thousands upon thousands of extra people that have never paid into any National Insurance pot, but arrive on A&E's doorstep and expect treatment from a dwindling staff is brushed under the carpet, while story upon story of the negative aspects of NHS are blown out of proportion. Spin, its all Labour know ... they have no idea of reality.

If I was being cynical, makes you wonder if it is a way of forcing the country to accept that it needs a Private NHS ... rather than the simple fact that Labour have destroyed it.

When a low-income familly has to find £100,000 for a life-saving operation because their insurance will not pay for a medical problem from birth, maybe only then will people realise what we had.

the money doesn't go where its needed. Most of it goes on management and a useless over priced computer system that a two year old could have told them won't work. They talk about how much more money they have put into the health service, which is true. What they don't tell you is the money is mismanaged in way that is unique to politicians. As with everything this crooked, hypocritical and inept government do its all about spin, its all about creating the impression that they know what they are doing and that they care what effect their policies have on the people who pay them. If any of them had any moral fibre they would not sleep at night. They will carry on as usual blindly refusing to see reality and screwing us all in the process.

"the legacy of Thatcher" Don't be stupid!. How can the spin, mismanagement and criminal waste of tax payers money by New Labour be the fault of Thatcher? You bloody socialists always blame and never take responsibility.

One of the problems Labour inherited was the hidden debt of £1000bn. This came from the Thatcherism Raine.

Do the figures - how much does it cost to keep (deliberately) 4.5million people unemployed for 11 or so years at £40k per year.

And she did tax cuts

Well it came from the hospitals, schools etc by not maintaining them - closing wards etc.

It is also because the pen pushers are rife. And why is that - because it is so hard to even sneeze without someone trying to sue you or to get u massicered in th enewspapers. Everyone is covering their bum.

I work in the NHS and I can tell you that the money is very often squandered on things we don't need and rarely spent on the things we do need.
The hospital I work at spent over 1 million pounds on agency staff to fill the gaps in nursing numbers. Instead of investing the money in training more nurses to do the job.
We had several managers fly off to foreign countries to poach their staff. It cost 10s of thousands of pounds and we are still no better off.
We spend millions on acheiving pointless government targets where people are no longer people, merely numbers on statistical charts.
We spend millions on employing outside contractors to provide basic services like laundry and linen delivery.
100s of thousands are spent on catering companies to deliver ready prepared food so all that's left to do is cook it.
We have managers on 40-45000 pounds a year to simply oversee people doing their jobs. And you want to know where the money goes??? LOL

Nobody ever says why do they? doctors want to take control of the nhs because they can do a better job but they never say what they will do differently and how it will help patients and not themselves. Someone needs to come out and say this is where all the moneys gone. this is where we wasted it and this is how we can sort it.

in the experience that they are like American liberals, they see gov't funds as their personal and limitless. They see communities and not in any respect man or woman taxpayers. it truly is a source of power and they don't care how their "initiatives" impact the destiny. Their purpose is to have their call utilized to homes or bridges, then bypass away formerly the end results of their spending will grow to be glaring.

I believe a large sum of the budget last year went on compensating people where mistakes or accidents had been made.
I remember reading about that, try searching Google news.

It's a badly managed, bottomless pit where patient care is no longer the primary concern.
