proceeded to tell you "this person wants you fired" and goes on to tell you OFFICE GOSSIP that people had said behind your back. They also gave details of how certain people who do not supervise you have taken action to have you fired.

Is a situation like this hopeless? I do the majority of the work for my boss. The last thing my boss wants is for me to go because then who'd do all of the work? I have my limits. Help.

I've left employment situations before and I don't want to feel pushed out. I don't want to run away from the situation. I really work for a sick individual who has absolutely no idea how to do their job. They view me as someone they can easily manipulate. What should I do about the negative comments they tell me "other people" have said? Do I tell this person I'd prefer not to hear those things?

Personally, I would ask my supervisor why so and so wants me fired and why he/she is telling me this. I would perceive that as a threat and proceed from there. Gossip is not appropriate for any workplace, in fact I'm sure that your HR dept has strict rules against them. I would definitely tell my supervisor directly that it is inappropriate to talk to me in such a manner. If there's a conspiracy to terminate you, you need to speak with your HR dept about it. I guess the bottom line is, are you happy with your job? Is the compensation outweighing the effort? That's something you have to decide, and hopefully you'll make the right decision.

I see no point for a boss to pass on office gossip to you, while taking absolutely no action against the people that he admits have been not doing their jobs but apparently taking on a new career of getting you fired.

I would look at him and ask him what action he is planning to take to get all this under control. If he's just trying to stir up more trouble, then it's time to begin looking for a new job where you don't work with a lot of poisonous snakes.

This sounds like a form of employer harassment. You do most of the work. Yet he seems to be bring you down. You may want to verify the gossip and rumors. Make sure he is not just blowing smoke. Work places are notorious for gossip mongering. Insecure employers tend to feed on this. Be careful and good luck.
