what does CDMA mean in regards to a cell phone?

On my cell phone, there is a option under Network , Privacy Alert. to Disable or Enable
What does this mean?

CDMA is a Frequencie used in Mobile Telephones.
its not the same as 3G.
not sure to why you would want to switch it on or off though.
auth assume that Network privacy means no in coming signal.
