He is so easy because he is so unrealistic. If you get the rectangle, the big eyes, the long nose, the stick-out teeth and the spots you have most of it. Now add those square pants with the belt. Throw in the black shoes and red tie and you can't go wrong. Even if the details are not as per the original the character will pass.
It is so easy because he is a caricature anyway so just train your eye to look for major landmarks.

Look at spongebob, take note on the drawing style (such as proportions, line contour, detail, .etc) then copy it.
