Because some people are dumb and ignorant and lack any sense of history. There is simply no way in hell that a lightweight pop tune from the late 20th Century could remotely be considered to be the greatest song of the past 1000 years. There is simply too much great opera and church music to allow a pop tune to receive that distinction
My personal choice for that honor would be Ode to Joy at the end of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony [ 1824] Music by Ludwig van Beethoven lyrics by Friedrich Schiller

Is there any other song like it?

It is brilliant coz it's totally not like a song. It's like pieces of smaller songs rolled into one. There's not 1 consistent melody from the start to the end of the song.

Because of this, you get to choose which part you like the most, not necessarily the whole song.

I personally love the "scaramouche scaramouche...." part.

It is a Masterpiece of Music. Five part harmony and virtuosos of their craft. ..I mean come on..all the musical complexities..and Brian May is one of the Best of the Best guitarists ever....and Freddie on vocals...song of the millenium? It could be the greatest rock and roll song of all time!

Who exactly chose this song as "Song of the Millenium"?

It's a great song, but c'mon the SOTM has got to be a Beatles song.

Where was it chosen as such? It's arbitrary, some people really think so, others don't. None of it all would have existed were it not for Chuck Berry and, in GB, the Beatles, so it doesn't really matter who votes what.
