Most homicides are a crime of passion. They might have been teased and tormented growing up, they could have anti-social personality disorder because of this. They may not have anyone to talk to, so all the things they are feeling are kept inside and keep building inside them until they can no longer take it and they break, they have a psychotic break.
They may be letting loose the pain and the suffering they have went through for so long.
I don't think it was a hate crime, more a crime of passion. It probably wasn't premeditated, there may not have been a motive. Just because "He" had a gun doesn't mean "he" was planning to kill anyone. I keep a sharp pocket knife in my purse and one in my book bag for protection, so the weapon he had may have had other purposes. When he lost it, the only release he had was to start shooting. He probably had nowhere else to turn, didn't have any friends/family closeby, and I could probably assume he had bipolar disorder and may have been off his meds.

I think you must have heard of the gun shooting at Virginia tech today.

Actually, some people kill for the thrill of it. It gives them mental and physical excitement, and feel powerful when doing so.

Others might have a mental disorder. They feel like they need to kill. For example, a serial killer that lived in California had a voice inside his head telling him that he needed to kill others in order to prevent a huge earthquake. So he killed people to save people from an earthquake, which actually sounds quite ironic and hyprocritic.

Others abuse the use of guns because they are high on drugs, or doing something they will soon regret.

There's lots of reasons why... just research it up yourself!

I tend to go with my gut reaction that these people have some sort of psychological problem. When its on that kind of level, I'm sure he wasn't aiming for certain people, but rather was pissed off at someone or something at the school and this was the sad way that he chose to express his anger.
To truly understand that person chose to go out and do this would mean that we relate to him.

It's just a simple act of one person being a very delusional. He/ or she are not in their right mind...... their mind their life , their society ,,,or job....or family,,,,or drugs .... or depression....or whatever or a combination of all the above .....can cause people to do strange things, or have strange behaviors. It's sad, but its out there.....and sometimes folks may go thru life just fine, till one day they wake up , and things are different for them. And they just loose it.....they go off the deep end. It's sad.

I think people who do these things have many insecurities. they think they are outcasts, don't fit in or other things like that. most of them kill themselves after they kill others because they do what they do out of cowardliness, and can't face the difficulties that arise. they don't understand that closing your eyes to what you fear doesn't make it go away. the innocent people who died were victims of someones psychological disorder, insecurity, loneliness, jealousy and depression.
the only way these things can be prevented is by giving love, showing respect to all. we live in a diverse society but very few people actually embrace differences. it's just sad.

mental impairment (depression, paranoia, giant tumor in brain pressing against the moral areas...) is what the news said.
