I do both. When I come across some great answers, and it's hard to pick the best, I let the people answer.

Pick it myself because some people consider a mean, cruel answer as best, when it shouldn't be.

If you let it go to voting, those that answered will go back and vote for themselves. Then a lousy answer gets selected as "best answer" to you question. That is why I prefer to select for myself the best answer to my question.
