I would call him on his lies. Don't be aggressive, but just question him. Let him know he's not getting away with it. Then hopefully he'll realize he can't pull one past you all the time. You never know when you might need to rely on him for the truth.

You're not doing him a favor by ignoring his lies - rather you're injuring both of you. Pretending there is no problem when really there is one is called passivity, and by being passive, you're helping him develop habits that could affect his and your own life. As hard as it is, tactfully and respectfully confront him with the problem. If he really is a friend, he'll listen and try to change. If he blows you off or continues to lie even after he says he won't, continue to give him your support, but from a distance. If he doesn't care or just outright won't listen, then he's by no means a friend to you. However, don't give up on him entirely - like I said, be there for him if he needs you, but make a point of not hanging out with him as much. You become like the people you hang out with.

No, you are only letting him feel like he's getting away with it and he will continue to lie until your relationship is destroyed over it.
Confront him when he lies. He may have a problem.

What I've done in the past with such friends, when I know or just think they are lying, I will ask them, "Is that so?" or "Are you sure?" or some other such thing. Then they are forced to either say it again or amend what they say. Good luck!

no, the more you let him get away with lying, the more he'll do it! and if he won't stop, you don't need someone like that hanging around you. he'll only bring you down.
