Poor Imus! That's a GREAT question! & the sad answer probably IS; Yes- because; #1. Nobody's going to be paying much attention to Sports this week cuz of what happend (Imus included) #2. If Imus was still on the air- all he'd be carrying on about- would be the VT massacre (& most people would probably sympathize with him), & #3. Todays terrible news puts what happend LAST week into it's proper perpective; Which is MORE important - a team of students with hurt feelings- or a group of dead students? Anyway, this all goes to prove ONE thing; that timing really IS everything...

That is a great question. What your asking is would the tragedy have taken away from Imus's idiocy. Yes, it probably would have been less newsworthy and not as notable. I believe it still would have been addressed, I think it still would have AND SHOULD HAVE been fired-but I really don't know for sure. What I do know, is that I am glad that it happened last week so that this week we can focus on praying for and doing anything we can to help the families of the children that were killed yesterday. It would be horrible if Imus would have taken from our thoughts and prayers for these grieving people.

No, I don't think he would be fired...people would be focusing more on the VT massacre. Sure, he would receive attention, but not a lot of air time. It makes a difference.

His remark may have not dominated the news the way it did last week if he had made it this week during the masacre, but I still think he would've been fired. You just don't get away with saying those kinds of things.

yes. the media having nothing else to talk about was a factor in how much air time and attention the incident had.
That doesn't make it ok to say what he said.
But people would have been too concerned with other things to obsess over it quite so much, you have to admit.
