any quick suggestions on adjusting valve lash on 5.3 vortec without spending all day disconecting all components above valve covers?

Too bad you have problems with your 2004 5.3. Good luck. I have a noisy problem with a different make, but I just deal with it because there is no fix for my engine.

This chattering could be the piston slapping the valves, GM has had several and most owners were given an extended warranty...But this is a suggestion to you..when on a 1/4 tank or below, put a pint of marvel mystery oil into your gas tank, this will clean the injection system and also clean off all the carbon build up on the valves and intake manifold...but you might have a little black smoke from the exhaust...completely run gas as low as you can then fill up with high octaine..hope this helps
