First I asked what the song was called from Donnie Darko that plays during the slow-motion hallway part the day after the engine lands in Donnie's room ("you're a celebrity"). Everyone said it was Mad World. Okay. But when I asked for the song title of the other, very different, sad song at the end of the movie, the part when the engine hits again and actually kills Donnie, I got the same answer. These two songs can't have the same title. Can anyone help me? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!!!

I'm looking at that scene right now and I'm listening to 'Head Over Heals' by Tears For Fears. I know that's the name because I bought the album in 1983 the day it came out on cassette...lol
" something happens and I'm head over heals don't take my heart, don't break my heart don't don't don't throw it away.."
Drew Barrymore just threw her cup in the garbage and entered the school. The song ends. Drew's character (the teacher) is reading Ghram Green to the class.
This is Chapter 5 on the dvd (director's cut).
Head Over Heals by Tears For Fears from Songs From The Big Chair... :-)

the one at the end is Mad World for sure by Gary Jules, but the beginning is "The Killing Moon" by Echo and the Bunnymen (OR, if you have the Director's cut, the opening song is "Never Tear Us Apart" by INXS)
