Nope. You are absolutely right. If rappers used derogatory terms, people would look the other way.
Maybe that's why rap is on the decline in popularity.
The demean women too much and promote their gangster lifestyle.
Don Imus is a scapegoat. Hopefully, it will revolutionize how entertainers present their materials in music and elsewhere.

It is NOT a double standard, for two reasons.
1. First of all, many people WOULD have been offended by Snoop's song if he had done that. I know I would have. Yes, some idiots would have found it funny and would have bought the album, but like the idiots that support Imus, they would have been wrong.
2. The thing that people keep forgetting is that Don Imus's radio show was a JOB. He represented the company for which he worked. That context made his remarks a representation of his employers, and that puts him in a situation where he needs to be careful about what he says. It is a business, and his remarks were inappropriate. Let me ask you something. How many people do YOU know that could get away with making a racial comment like that at work without getting fired right on the spot? Probably not many.
So there was no scapegoating going on here, and there is no double standard. The only scapegoating going on is people trying to use his firing as an excuse for their racism. I am sure you are not one of them, as we all know that having black friends must make you not racist. But standing up for Imus, regardless of whether you listen to him or not, does not do justice for those friends. They deserve better.

Snopp Dogg or any rap artiest are expected to be rude. they use bad language , it doesn't make it right . but what you are talking is about the rap and hiphop industry.
that doesn't justify what Imus did. his remark was raciest.
while it's very easy to think that a white person is raciest it's very hard to convince that a black person is raciest.
I do believe it's wrong but as someone stated what Imus does is a job and he represent the station he works for. Not himself.
like it's unacceptable for the president to say that he doesn't like china while if an average person said it it wont be a big deal. cause when the president say it he represents the whole country while if i or you said it we merely represent our own opinions

yes its a double stanard, but he was wrong, and it was uncalled for, its uncalled for for ANYONE no matter what race to say it, but if a black person would have said it, no they would have not lost their job. its a black people thing thats all i can say, i've called my friends and have been called that before jokingly and my friend we not offended but had i been a white person or any other roce, yes they would have and put me in check. now do i agree that Rev. Sharpton need to step in for every little thing? no cause sometimes he takes things too far, i felt a written verbal and direct apology and promise to never do it again would have been simple enough and imus could have went back to his little show that as far as i know hardly anyone listens to or watches, Rev. Sharpton took it to the extreme,, but thats what he is, an extremiest. i think he should focus on more important issues like getting more black people into college and getting us scholarships.

I watched an interview with Snoop Dog on this very subject, and he assured the audience that Imus use of these derogatory terms was completely different from his - you see, Imus called these girls "hos" without knowing anything about them.
Snoop Dog only calls women "hos" when they DESERVE to be called "*itches and hoes, trying to get a n*gg*s money!"

If Imus hadn't been an enemy of Hillary Clinton he would still be on the air. If he hadn't been refering to Ms.Clinton as Satan none of this would have gone beyond a simple apology. Sharpton just did Hillary's dirty work.

So....what you are saying is: It's OK for blacks to say NIGGGER....but it's TABOO for whites to say it. It's "hip hop" cool for rap "artists" to verbally defecate on women and their social roles (after all: rappers think women should SERVE them)
And for the "reverend" Al Sharpton, his resonant message is: "GIVE YOUR $$$$ TO THE LORD....just send it to MY address......".
Don Imus is a very wealthy man: firing him will NOT hurt him. Imus now is a FREE MAN--free to pursue other more profitable broadcast contracts---and they're being drawn up as we speak.
But Imus DID prove that blacks ARE just as racist as any KKK member...and social double standards ARE banal and evident.

You my friend hit the nail on the head. Rappers get away with this junk every day! This is the same problem I am fighting. If our media music industry can get away with it, why can't imus? Personally I think both should be restricted.
