Gettysburg is a town in the south central part of PA and is about 45-55 miles north of Baltimore if you take RT 15 out of Gettysburg. It is most noted for the civil war battle which changed the outcome of how the war would turn out especially if you put it with the victory at Vicksburg, Mississippi the following day. The battle took place on July 1,2,and 3 in1863. It was a Union victory though a narrow one but it proved costly for the Confederacy who would never reached into the North again but had to play a defensive strategy , sort of like a prevent defense is to the NFL , a slower death in hopes of a general miracle or disaster to occur to bring out victory. It was also the place where Lincoln gave one of the greatest 2 1/2 minutes speeches in our history in dedicating the cemetery there as a memorial for the fallen.

Gettysburg, PA. The site of the largest single battle between the Union and the Confederates during the War of Northern Aggression. July 1-3, 1864. The battle cost the South any chance at victory in the war. Casualties on both sides were horrendous, but the Southern States could not recover the manpower or material lost in that engagement.

Gettysburg is a town in southern Pennsylvania that was the site of a major 3-day battle during the American Civil War. That battle was the bloodiest battle that ever occurred on American soil. Today, the battlefield is a National Military Park. Or something close to that.

You'll have to do some homework.
It is the name of a small town near to where one of the biggest and most decisive battles of the Civil War was fought. The army led by Robert E. Lee of the Confederacy clashed with those of Union General Meade, who improvised defenses using hills and ridges in the Pennsylvania landscape to fight off Lee's attacks. There are a number of good books on the subject; try the word on google.com or Wikipedia also for more details.
