Our right to free speech has been dissappearing a little at a time for about 200 years now. And mostly it has been a result of our actions. We tend to forget that we have the responsibility for free speech as well as the right to it. I believe the firing of Imus was late but well deserved. Common sense (which most of us have in minute quantities and having heard his show a few time, he has a small fraction of what most of us have.) As a public person, and most public people will confirm this, that you, as a speaker in public, have a responsibility to your audience as individuals to not slander, belittle or embarass them. There are means as an educated person can use to get the point across without being abusive.

I heard on one the talking head shows that what Imus (and I intentionally leave out the MR., as he does not deserve the respect it carries and I leave out the Don because I don't wish to appear friendly to him) said was becoming common language (supposedly because it is frequently used by rapper and amongst black Americans. However, I don't understand why they consider it offensive if used by white, but that is another subject sorry.). I don't believe it and I simply cannot accept that as logical and reasonable.

I will close by saying that he got what was coming. No more, no less. I would actually like to forcus more on the young women and their leaders who want to focus on moving ahead, they are real champs and I bow to them.

I don't know who leaked his comments on the radio but most of us would never know or care what he said if it hadn't been leaked to the press. I think it would've been better if the whole world didn't hear it. Once it got leaked people got offended including me. I didn't even know who Imus was until the news started reporting about it.
