"kaos" was the evil organization and "control" the good guys(Smart's group) in the show... similar to "Spectre" and "MI6" in the Bond movies

CONTROL and KAOS were supposed to be acronyms, but Mel Brooks and Buck Henry never came up with anything for them to stand for.



It is a fractal theory joke.

chaos was the bad guys and control were the good guys. It was made during the Cold War period so it was a play on the CIA and the KGB

The show was a spoof of a spoof, namely The Man From U.N.C.L.E. which had T.H.R.U.S.H. as its nemesis.
I won't bore you with those names, but the names in Get Smart weren't acronyms.
