In 1993 the SF Giants won 103 games, and lost on a tie breaker on the last game of the year to the Dodgers. The tie breaker was against the San Diego Padres who also won 103 games but had the better heads up record vs. the Giants that year by one game. This is actually a tie with the 1954 Yankees who won 103, lost 51 but lost their pennant to the Indians who won 110 games that very same year. Used to be more common before the wild crad was introduced about ten years ago.

The Padres got in in 2005??? with a record of 82-80.

The 1954 Yankees with a 103-51 record did not make the playoffs, and the 2005 Padres sporting an 82-80 record, made the playoffs, obviously they did not win.

Cy Young holds the record for most games won (511) and most games lost (316) in his career.

Losses in a season:

Worrell, Tim 1990 12 losses.

Briley, Dennis 1984 11 losses.

Conrady, Jeff 1984 10 losses.

Hill, Jim 1970 10 losses.

As for a single team.... sorry couldn't find the answer.

Part 2 I think was the '54 Yankees who won over 100 ( 104) but Cleveland won 110 and went to the series.

Part 1:There were a few sub .500 teams as I recall, but which?
