Homeland Security knows who he is. The name is not being released, yet. The news media does not have access to Homeland Security info. Perhaps some students from Virginia Tech knew him. (other than his dead girlfriend). It is highly probable that he was a student at Virginia Tech.

The gunman has been identified as a Chinese man who arrived in the United States last year on a student visa. The 24-year-old man arrived in San Francisco on United Airlines on Aug. 7 on a visa issued in Shanghai

The rampage was planned. The shooter was heavily armed with two handguns a 9mm and a 22 and plenty of ammo plus a vest.
What caused his meltdown? It was likely a combination of:
o-- cultural shock (he was a foreign student from Shanghai)
o-- romantic bollux (Was Emily Hilscher his "girlfriend"? How long had they been involved? Did he have the "if I can't have her no one can syndrome") and
What was the relationship to Ryan Clark? He was the resident advisor in the dorm.
o-- poor grades (an Oriental student usually focuses on studying, studying, studying and for leisure activity sleeping). Was the shooter a student at Virginia Polytechnic Institute?

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- A Virginia Tech senior from South Korea was behind
the massacre of at least 30 people locked inside a campus building in the
deadliest shooting rampage in modern U.S. history, the university said
Tuesday.

Ballistics tests also show that one of the guns inside that building was
used in another shooting two hours earlier, at a dorm, Virginia State
Police said.

Police identified the shooter as Cho Seung-Hui, 23, a senior from South
Korea who was in the English department at Virginia Tech and lived on
campus.

The last I heard was they was waiting on the ballistic report to come back before they release anymore info. They wanted to make sure that all shots was fired from the same gun.

They are not releasing his name yet. But the news is reporting that he is a Chinese student here on a Visa.

I don't know what possessed him to coldheartedly kill so many innocent people...
