Well needless to say I'm going to have to promote lying. Seems obvious right? Well I'm saying you go with a family emergency or venture to the hospital which was completely unexpected. I once said I got stranded without a car and my cell phone died and I sent my boss an email in the middle of the night to somewhat explain and make it appear like I was sorry and really trying to get in touch. The trick is to dramatize, but not over do it. If you do over do it, you'll be just drawing more attention to the elements of your story and then you might forget the specifics and get caught in the act. Remember to apologize for not being there and reassure him you won't let it happen again. Then see if you can play somewhat the dingy card and ask if you can get his number again and program it in your phone. Any bit of decency and understanding for your boss's situation also helps. Good Luck. Hope you had a fun day off!

If you did not show up and did not call in, you deserve to be fired. If you worked for me, I would fire you. This is probably not the first time you have done this. Do you ever last longer than six months on a job?
You also say you had five missed calls from your boss. Did you lay in bed and listen to him/her talk to your machine? You didn't miss the calls, you just didn't respond to the calls.

That would have been a real good question for you to have asked yourself last night or early this morning.
If you're real lucky, you might keep your job. In most situations, you'd likely be fired. And you probably couldn't collect unemployment either, since you'd have been fired for cause.
