These cables are really just a confusing way for a pro to handle it. The best way to get your files from your old computer is to either burn them to a CD or DVD, or get an External IDE or SATA Hard Drive Enclosure. Take the hard drive out of your old computer and insert it into the enclosure. The enclosure will then plug into the new computer.

If you would rather share the files between the computers while they are on, then either get a network switch or a crossover cable. You have to be a bit tech savvy in order to setup the two computers to see each other, but there is lots of references on the Microsoft website.

The only dependable way your going to share files is over an Ethernet connection, a USB connection is very very slow and problematic and is only ever used as a last resort.
A Ethernet crossover cable is needed then your Network Wizards on each pc.

The cable should have come with some software on a disc that you install on both pc's, then connect the cable, run the software on both pc's and transfer to hearts content.
