I know this is a fairly common practice in hot climates, so I have heard of other people doing this.
Many babies are born with hair, and then their hair falls out. Sometimes it grows back exactly the same, sometimes it grows back different. A baby with born with straight black hair can turn into a curly-haired blonde within a year. When my sister was born, she had a whole head full of black hair, like my dad, but by the time her first birthday rolled around, she was blonde, like my mom.
If, when part of it falls out, you shave the rest of it off, you might notice a difference when it comes in. But only because it was going to grow back in differently anyway. The actual act of shaving it off has nothing to do with the change, except it'll probably grow in a bit more even, the same length all over.
You can shave it off if you want to, but don't expect miraculous results.
Also (I really hope I don't need to say this, but just in case I will), be very, very careful, and use an electric shaver made for hair. Please, God, don't use a razor.

Go for it gurl!
I wouldn't shave it right now because she's only 6 months old and still/should have her soft spot.
My daughter is 3 years old, and i shaved her head a few months ago. It will grow back really fast, and very beautiful! I didn't shave my daughters hair cause it was falling out though. I had to shave it cause she got headlice real bad. Her hair is almost grown back now. And even more thicker and shinier than before. Don't listen to what others want you to do though. IT'S YOUR DECISION!

well, shaving a baby's head seems a little silly. thier hair falls out because it is so fine, and you'll see patches because its where the baby lies its head when it sleeps. once they start sleeping on all sides, and sitting up and becoming more active, it will all grow back. it only takes a couple months...untill then, use a hat if its a boy, or cute barettes or head bands to take the attention off the bald spots if its a girl. and if you choose to shave his/her head, good luck with getting your baby to sit still!

its a myth I promise lol don't believe it for a second!! alot of people think if you shave anything .. it "will grow faster and thicker and better than it is now" unless your hair is fried from some bad bleach job or something or severe damage from straighteners or curling irons or blow dryers .. you don't need to shave your head, because that is the only way to start over with a healthy head of new hair haha ;)

I actually think it sounds really dangerous to shave an infant's head. I would not recommend doing this. Remember, the baby's head isn't fully developed and there is still a soft spot. Baby's lose their hair...it is natural. It isn't going to grow back until he is a little older, no matter what you do.

well i heard of that one too. My daughter didn't have good hair at all it's almost bald anyway so someone told me to shave her head and hair will grow thicker and better and i did, and now it does start to grow better. Don't shave your baby's head yet because his or her head is still soft, wait until he or she turns one and after...my daughter was 12 month when i shaved her head.

Your really not suppose to give a baby their first haircut until they are 1 year old because their head is still very soft before then. To answer your question my oldest son had this same issue (as most babies do) his grandmother cut his hair with out my consent when he was 6 months old. He had cuts in his hair from the cut job because of his soft head. When his hair did start to grow back it was not the same texture it was when he was born. I hated it and I wouldn't tell anyone to do this but whatever you choose is up to you.

Shaving can cause ingrown hairs. You don't want your child to have ingrown hairs on its head. Ingrown hairs can cause a lot of pain, and your child will be crying because of the pain. The hair falls out because it is so fine. The hair won't fall out as the child matures.

No, I think if anything it will stunt the growth of your baby's hair. My try a different shampoo for kids. I had to start using Just For Kids shampoo and cond. I love the way her hair comes out looking and smelling so good. Now her hair is down her back, I started when she was 10 months old now she is about to be 2.
