A penny is placed on turntable at a radius of 12 cm. The turn table rotates with a period of 1.8 seconds. What is the acceleration? I got 1.77, but the answer was 1.74. What should I have done to get that answer?

velocity is .4 m/s. we want to use the standard units. First I divided the velocity by the radius to get the mass. than I times the mass by the velocity squared and divided it by the radius. but the answer still wasn't right

Let me see :

Period = 2pi / w

w = angular velocity

period = 1,8 seconds, then :

1,8 = 2pi / w

w = 3.49 rad / s

And we know, linear velocity is = w*radius

V = 3.49*12/100 = 0.4188 m/s

acceleration must be the centripetal acceleration :

Ac = (0.4188)^2 / 12/100 = 1.46 m/s^2

If the lines of stress meets at a factor from all radial instructions then this is a source of proper stress.eg stress of gravitation,or Electrostatic.There would be a centripetal and centrifugal stress.
