Might just need a charge, might need a new compressor.

Hi,
Please try to check the following things
1.Is there any leakage in the A/C system? If not charge your gas.
2.Is your compressor is working good?
A small cross check is to make the engine on and idle and then engage the a/c switch ..your tacho meter will show a defelection..it means the compresor is working ..it takes a little power from the engine..that is normal
3.The V-belts-The belts connects to compressor should be tight and good. Please replace it it old and tighten it if there is slack.
4.Please check with the heater knobs in the dashboard whether is works fine or not.

Take a look at the diagram below. Get to know how an auto a/c works.
Assuming your car is blowing air, just not cold air.
Foremost, a/c system is a close system. Freon shouldn't leak out. It still would slowly leak out older o-ring-less a/c system. Find the leak before charging. Freon ain't cheap.
Perhaps it is time for a/c service? They would replace expansion valve, and receiver dryer. Also top-up/charge system with freon.

Well if you're not low on refrigerant and you've checked all of the sensors and switches, and assuming that you're compressor is kicking in... You're probably right. It's either a blend door, blend door actuator or possibly even the control head itself
Try switching from heat to defrost, from vents to floor, etc. What happens?
It's best to take it to a reputable shop and have it checked out.

Refigrerant leak, faulty compressor, just to name two. Charging a leaking system with more freon is ill-advised as it will be empty in a week. Take the car in and get it fixed, better for you and the environment.

1) make sure temp. control is not on heat. 2) open hood and see if compressor is engaging, if not check fuse. 3) if fuse o.k. could be low on refrigerant. need gauges to check pressures. go to service shop.

Older Ford and their subsidaries like Mercury and Lincoln have crappy A/C. Try refilling it with freon

does your a/c compressor clutch engage when you demand air conditioning.....are your freon lines [low pressure side] getting cold........if yes........then your probably right.......air control door,s inside the plenum....are usually vacuum operated....some are electric........check the control,s......there on top of the plenum......be sure your air control selector is operating correctly......good luck!
