1) Farm mechanisation/techniques, including crop rotation. Agricultural output increased, so the farm sector needed fewer workers.
2) Cotton spinning/weaving machines such as the well-known Spinning Jenny. These machines were combined with...
3) The steam engine... now unskilled labour, brought together in large factories, could produce huge volumes of an easily-traded product (fabric). Factories slowly replaced cottage-based, 'artisan' industries that required great skill.

4) Macadamised roads: in the early 19th Century revived Roman road building techniques improved transportation and communication.
5) Canals did the same.
6) Sewers allowed people to live in cities without dying at such a high rate from disease.
