I've been told to put it on this way and that way ... I'm not quite certain how you're supposed to put it on because I usually don't put foundation on my face. How exactly do you put it on right? What do you usually start putting it on regularly and is it necessary?

:) Generally you should apply it with a latex sponge or a foundation brush. You just swipe it across your face (or, if you have larger pores, stipple it on-- a patting motion to really push it in. You want it to look blended to your skin, not just sitting on top), then pat a powder over it to set it. If you find yourself doing more than one layer, then you just need something with a higher coverage.(ie: go from tinted moisturizer to cream foundation) You should NEVER have to layer foundation, or it will look fake, eventually shift over your skin and look splotchy, and it will be more transferable (wipe and run off very easily)

There's nowhere you have to start, but it's always good to start in the middle of your face and blend out, especially for those who aren't so experienced with makeup and may be a bit heavy handed. That way if the foundation isn't a perfect match for your skin (it takes time to find the right one, or you may have tanned, or whatever), there's less of a chance of that discoloured line around your face that makes it look like you're wearing a mask.

When buying foundation, you test it along a clean jawline. You know it's right when the makeup basically disappears into your skin.

Foundation's not necessary, but always good to wear, even if it's just a powder or a tinter moisturizer. Not only does it have spf in it, but it acts as a barrier keeping our skin from absorbing environmental pollutants-- something sunscreen alone won't do.

If the colour's a perfect match, just apply it in trouble areas where you need it. But if you want a flawless face (perfect skin makes the rest of your features and eyes look crisper and more finished as well), always good to use foundation.

After gently cleaning your face, apply moisturizer. Then get one of those makeup sponges (round disk shape or wedge shape, it doesn't matter) Rinse the sponge under running water and then squeeze excess water out so sponge is just damp. Use this to apply foundation. It will go on so much easier and smoother. The sponge can be reused several times if you rinse after each use with hot water until clean and let it air dry. I have been blessed with good skin so I only applied foundation where I thought it was needed: under eyes, nose, chin. If you feel you need it all over be sure there is no line of demarkation along your jaw line and hair line. Also, it's better to apply foundation that's a bit too light than a bit too dark which is a mistake many girls make. Use good quality foundation or it may 'yellow' through the day. Practice makes perfect.

Mac really is the best, it's not cheap makeup but it lasts long and really is good value for money. I wear mac makeup and i wore it whilst i had acne, it was amazing, it covered everything with just one thin layer! Use a foundation brush to apply the liquid makeup and then use a concealer if necessery, then, i would recommend using a pressed powder to set the makeup and help it stay on all day. Hope my advise is helpful :) x

I like to put lotian on first...something that has an SPF, this smooths the skin out so when you put on foundation it doesn't highlight the dry spots, or seem uneven. You don't need to cover your whole face with foundation either. Put the lotion on, then see where the trouble spots are. Cover those with foundation, dust with a nice light powder and that's it.

I only put it on areas that absolutely need it. A full face of make-up is great if you are trying to add years to your appearance but most of us are looking for something a little less noticable.
Anywhere your skin is discolored pat a little on and blend, loose powder for an all-over finish.

Tinted mousturizers are good for this, because they can provide coverage without the smothering affect of full on foundation.

If you have extremely bad skin, many salons that sell make-up do demonstrations for free or at a set price, which may or may not be worth it to you depending on how much you feel you've learned.

Also on Youtube there are many free demonstrations, some by top-name companies, just type in "make-up demonstration" or anything related.

If u have a close-to-perfect skin, better dont use any foundation. Eyeshadows n liners n mascaras with lipstick/lipgloss are enough to create a dramatic look for this kind of skin.

Hope that helps.

i kind of just dab it on with small strokes? i guess whatever works for you as long as you make sure there aren't any like visible lines.
foundation is the base of your make up pretty much and its supposed to cover up flaws on your face especially if you have uneven skin tones. it makes your face look flawless if you do it right.
its not necessary unless you say it is. it kind of also suffocates your face but its up to you whether you want to cover up the bad stuff.

I don't wear foundation. I find tinted moisturizer much better. But, I would guess putting on foundation would be the same as putting on moisturizer.

I just put foundation on under my eyes, because that's where I get shadows. Just put foundation on where you need an even skin tone, and blend.
