How accurate is the time of birth in birth certificates?
And i am talking about minutes here. Are doctors and nurses always quite precise when it comes to taking notice of the birth time of a newborn baby? When they say 7:44, could it have easily been 7:38 or 7:50?
It's for astrological purposes.

they are pretty accurate...i mean, they usually have the people standing by ready to recieve the baby and clean it off after its born check the time of birth. so i'd say its pretty accurate...unless the clock was set ten minutes off! i mean, everywhere you go, clocks never have the same exact time. you could walk into the next room, and have the clock read a few minutes faster or slower. which leads to another question, what time is it, really?

The time of birth is accurate at the most it may be off by a minute. They look at the clock as soon as the child is born and someone is there to write it on the birth certificate.

I believe they are pretty precise. For example, my daughter was born at 7:25 pm and the nurse yells it out at another nurse across the room. I even looked at the clock and they were right on. However, if a baby had a tramatic birth and was in danger I couldn't see somebody looking at the clock and jotting it down....

Yes, they are pretty accurate of the time. Usually there will be a nurse there to just record events, meds given...time of birth,,so forth,,,that would be the job to take note of the time and other things going on.

As far as I know (from the birth of my own child) as soon as that baby is fully into the world the first thing they do is call off the time. So I would say it is about as accurate as you can get.

i would there is a 50/50 chance that its right. however my lastest addition 2 months old has a different time on her birth certificate than the time they gave me on the sheets you take home. and since i was so busy at the time of her birth i really have no idea which one is right.

You're questioning the scientific accuracy of recorded time by a medical professional for astrological purposes? That brought a smile to my face. :-)

But yes, the times written down by doctors are correct...unless your doctor is an idiot. All of that stuff has to be meticulously recorded and filed in the event that a malpractice lawsuit emerges.

All three of my childrens birth certificates were accurate w/ the actual time of birth, plus I have attended all 5 of my grandchildren births, and ditto.

There is probably a really high chance that it could have been a couple of minutes either side of what they say and you have to really wonder when it is that they declair the baby as born and if so would you agree with it and how did they see it exactly at that time, they couldnt have so i think the chance of it being exactly rite is very slim. . .

When I had my 2 daughters the nurse looked right at the clock and announced the time both times and knew they were right because that made me take notice of the time also.
