Yes, It would be nice to have them close to home. It's amazing how money can come out of nowhere when it's for something like this. The lake front is a nice area.

Everyone seems so concerned about how Chicago will pay for the Olympics. Come on, it's the City of Chicago. Mayor Daley will have cronies with construction companies lining up to "bid" on the rights to build and then sell the Olympic Village. Oh yeah, part of that bid will include buying the air rights over the railroad yard - at probably far less than true value. Somebody is going to get eight or more lakefront condo towers for $150 million in air rights - hello, the average purchase price for each tower's air rights should probably be $150 million just so they can sell the view.
The plan puts numerous venues in existing structures, many at McCormick Place. And if some of the events end up being too big for the alloted space at McCormick Place, they could be moved to existing or already independently planned university spaces - Loyola's Gentile Center, Sears Centre, Northwestern, Chicago State's soon to be built 7000 seat convocation center. And many of the smaller outdoor venues in Grant Park will either perhaps not need much in formal seating or could be handled with a high school style stadium seating which could be moved to some of the schools in the city. Money, again, should not be much of an issue.
Neighborhood change? By building the Olympic Village on air rights, the plan will create a whole new neighborhood. It will be mixed use, but probably more upscale that what is existing to its west. All of the events planned for Grant Park & Millenium Park should have no more effect than most of the massive summer festivals such as Taste of Chicago. Building an Olympic pool will be a huge recreational benefit for whatever area that finally ends up in. The biggest effect will probably be the temporary Olympic stadium in Washington Park. The METRA electric line runs not too far east of there, and another rail line runs not too far west of there. The stadium will definitely spur some new commercial development in the area, and probably create some preferred corridors for getting from the commuter rail to Washington Park. Mayor Daley does not want the Olympic legacy to be parking lots, so transit will be the key for the plan. Some change will occur, but probably nothing so drastic that people need to worry about wholesale redevelopment.
Yes, Chicago should host the Olympics, and people should focus on the benefits rather than the uncertainties involved.

risk-free sufficient? controversial. able to information superhighway hosting the Olympics? no longer a danger. Mayor Daley says the #a million reason Chicago could be a suitable host for the Olympics is considering which you will get everywhere interior the city via bus or prepare. in spite of the reality that this is authentic, what Daley does not inform you is that the prepare gadget is so old that the trains are continuously not on time using upkeep shape and upkeep. The Chicago Transit Authority can particularly shelter the quantity of commuter site visitors it gets on an consumer-friendly day as this is. upload to that a million million vacationers on the city for the Olympics and you will relatively have a commuter nightmare on your palms. each 6 months the Chicago Transit Authority whines approximately the way it desires extra investment so as that it could proceed to supply commuters with inferior provider.

Sure I can get there a lot easier than California. Plus LA has already had the games twice so its time for another city.
