What do you think? If a few students or teachers were legally holding a handgun, there wouldn't have been 33 murders today. That nut-job would have thought twice about walking into a classroom if he knew people would be shooting back.
"Our streets in our country are in turmoil. The universities are filled with students rebelling and rioting. Communists are seeking to destroy our country. We are in danger -- yes, danger from within and without. We need law and order. Without law and order, our nation cannot survive." This was said by Adolf Hitler in 1933. The first thing Hitler did when he took over Germany was to take away everyone's guns.

Ten years ago the Children's Defense Fund did a study on the leading causes of death for Americans under 20 years old.

The second leading cause, with 5,751 deaths, was gunfire.

So, while the Virgina Tech shootings dominated the news because of the sensational nature of the story, it is a very small part of the problem.

I have no doubt that if one out of every ten college age Americans, wrestling with all the problems and hormones associated with the transition to adulthood, carried an loaded handgun the number of firearm deaths in this country would skyrocket. Most of the victims would be other college age Americans.

Would you want to go to an emotional charged college football game in an 80,000 seat stadium knowing that 8,000 fans, some of whom would undoubtedly be drunk, had loaded handguns with them?

I am also unsure that the "nut-job" at Virginia Tech would have be deterred by others being armed. Since he was suicidal I doubt if he would have been too worried about getting shot.

I don't know if you ever knew anyone who has been killed by a handgun. I knew two people who killed each other in a gun fight. They were mature adults, professional police officers, but he needled her once too often about being overweight. That was all it took to end two lives.

Don't try to twist my comments by saying I am advocating taking people's guns away. I don't know what the solution is, or even if there is one. What I am saying is that having more people carry around guns with them, as you suggest, is not the solution.

So,.. are you saying take away the peoples right to firearms, or are you saying teachers should be permitted to have a firearm in the class room?

If youre saying that teachers should be able to keep a firearm in the classroom, I may agree w/ that (as long as he/she didnt turn it on their students or other teachers), but some teachers students probably make their teachers want to murder them.

I dont know,... gun laws arent working very well are they!? You could get a gun where and whenever you want. You cant very well protect you and yours w/ a spatula, but they wont let you carry a gun w/out a liscense, even then, you have to have it where they can see it.

Theres no way to tell how one would react in a situation like today. If someone had had a gun, and killed the gunman, would that person be perceived as a HERO, or would they face a lengthy court battle because they took someone elses life?

Its hard to put your faith in this judicial system these days...... corruption rules, and those who rule, are usually corrupt!

Well, a gun would have helped, but, just thinking help too. Say you have 5 people and one person shooting. You sort of have an Idea you will be shot, so, attack with what ever you have and fight!!!! Throw books, pencils, the teacher, whatever you can and keep moving toward the person in a zig-zag motion, watching the gun, not the person. 5 people would have taken 1 easy and most likely no one would have been hurt. Fear is a terrible foe.

I will add women to that quote! They can kick some butt too when they not get scared.

You've done your homework. Hitler's quote could have easily been spoken by Bush or Ashcroft immediately following 9/11, keep that in mind.

"If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns!"

Well...I might be Mr Peace, Love and Hashpipes, but if I had my druthers, I'd have a fu--in' arsenal! Protecting yourself and your property is essential anywhere.

I was watching CNBC late this afternoon, they kept talking to this Dem from NY, and all she said was "We need smaller ammo clips and assault weapon control" then they would talk to some guy that said "We need better background checks" and they went back and forth several times, repeating the same crap again and again, finally they talk to a Rep, He says " We need to take time for the victims", he's cut off and then they go right back to the same routine. The Libs did not give a damn people died, they just wanted to push their issues. It was revolting, I will NEVER vote for another Dem ever again.

These are isolated incidents.... You cant have every body walking around with guns and shooting people, that would be taking justice into your own hands.... which is the same thing the shooter (bad guy) was doing..... The streets would be chaotic.
