From your other questions I assume you mean in WW2.
Hitler had Poland in the bag by late September 1939. There was then a period called the 'phony war', in which a state of war existed but neither side attacked the other for some months. In fact, the Germans were waiting for the end of winter, while the French and British lacked the confidence to attack the well-trained and equipped Germans.
In May 1940 the Germans attacked France- instead of using their tanks to support infantry, they put their infantry in trucks and armoured vehicles so they could keep up with the tanks. Thus, they broke through the French lines and moved much faster than the Allies expected, quickly surrounding the confused French and British.
The British evacuated in early June and the French signed a peace treaty a few weeks later.
The Battle of Britain occurred from August 1940- fought entirely in the air, the Germans tried to gain air superiority to cover a ship-borne invasion of England. In fact, the Germans were not well prepared because they hadn't expected to be so successful so quickly- the Royal Air Force defeated them.
Again, there was limited fighting on land from November 1940 until the invasion of Russia in June, 1941.

If you are talking about World War One it was on August 3,1914 but if you are talking about WWII then it was on May 11, 1940.
