Double check your mower. For the last 20 years, most mowers are using 12 volt systems!

If you talking about charging a battery, then buy a charger with dual voltage.
If talking about using 6 volt equipment on a 12 volt system, then buy an voltage adapter.

Use resistors, but they must be heavy duty, for instance 100w rated. Use ohms law to figure out how big the resistor needs to be. They can be put in series to increase the value. Ohm's Law: R=E/I. If you are wanting to charge a battery, get a charger that will do 6V batteries. And what lawn mower uses 6V, anyway?

Best bet would be to use a 6 volt charger. Pacific Power Batteries (Washington state) can probably sell you one; check their web site.

2:1 stepdown transformer, just be aware that when you change the voltage you modify the amperage too. A lot of home battery chargers still have 6 volt charger capabilities.
