When do you think classes will resume on the Virginia Tech campus. (I am assuming they have cancelled classes for tommorow.) I know of all the questions surrounding this tragedy, this one may be somewhat insensitive, but I was thinking about how I would feel if I was one of the students on that campus, and I am sure class, classwork, responsibilities would be so far from my mind. I would imagine that some would suggest they continue daily campus life as normal to help people cope, but I could also imagine some students just not being able to cope. This is so close to the end of a semester...what are they going to do...especially for those students who can't bear to continue the last week or so of the semester. Colleges tend to be very technical when it comes to passing classes and graduation, but this is weeks away from graduation for some. How do you think that will be handled?

(Sorry if I am coming off insensitive. Trust me, I am actually too sensitive.)

You aren't insensitive. I had the same thought and conversation with my husband. I am a Grad Student, and I can't imagine having to go back to classes anytime soon. Plus, I would think that some student would want to go home. Then there will be funerals.

I am going to to out on a limb and say that most classes will resume toward the end of the week or the beginning of next week. I would also guess that some exams and final projects will be changed to reflect all of this.

Can you imagine what Graduation is going to be like?

For one I wouldn't be worried about being insensitive, obviously there are some organized gun toting people who don't feel the same. What they should do for the students... for ALL STUDENTS is control this. Eight years of school shooting and gun related offenses isn't enough? I don't speak as if I have the answer, because I don't. But no one is asking me, I unfortunately am on the side of the paranoid parents sending their children to school in bullet proof vests. One day they will be issued along with text books and TI-83 calculators every year. What a thought right? In my high school there was always a cop on campus, if not more than one! With police presence it did insure safety, yet it also insured steeper punishments - a simple fight would be escalated to assult charges, for example.

I do know they set up things for tomorrow. it was on the news. They will have a lot of help and will not have to go to class nor will they get in trouble. The State emergency was declared. That helped those students in need and will not lose all credits.
There are over 100 buildings also. So most will be open in two days.
Sorry that is all i really know from the news.
But i have read things from other schools and they did not lose credit and even in highschool.

i don't think you are being insensitive at all...in fact, no one has so far mentioned those that are now left behind to deal with this insanity...you are right what are they going to do now? not only the students, but the administration and what about the parents of the students that are now left there...what if they out of fear pull their kids out, and as you say at the end of the semester...

i think it's very thoughtful of you to acknowledge the hundreds of students that are also suffering but because of the immensity of it all can't even speak of what in fact is going to be a hard reality for them in the next week or two

Yes, it is a tragedy, but life goes on. The rest of the students have to fulfill their academic obligations, graduate, get jobs, support themselves and repay student loans. What do other people do, who have obligations outside themselves, when there is a death in the family? You carry your sadness inside and go on the best you can - whether you are self-supporting or have a family to take care of.

I imagine there will be a day or days of mourning after which they will have to get back to the business of living.

Classes are cancelled for tomorrow. They probably will begin again in several days due to graduation.
I am not insensitive either, just being logical. I am sure a lot of them will need counseling too.

i do no longer think of it replaced into insensitive - i think of it would be replayed lots, a million) so as that the NHRA can assessment and notice what advancements may be made, the way it would have been prevented, and how it incredibly is prevented interior the destiny, and 2) so as that all of us who sees it's going to be reminded merely how fragile life is. We get numb to seeing injuries by way of fact many of the time each and every thing is okay, yet we would desire to keep in mind how risky those activities incredibly are. RIP SCOTT KALITTA

Finals and graduation can wait. What's most important is the mental health of the students. Many of them are going to need alot of support and counseling to help them get through something so horrible and traumatic.

Classes are cancelled tomorrow, and there are going to be two counseling centers set up on campus to provide support for anyone up to talking about it.

P.S. Your question is very thoughtful.

Well Im sure that they will be cautious before starting classes back up. Because the first time that the shooting started they kept everyone on lockdown and then lifted it. Then that's when the 2nd shootings started so im sure that they will be more careful.
