I know it sounds simplisitic, but I feel very strongly that evil must be destroyed. How is it that the Virginia Tech shooter can walk about, unrecognized for the evil monster that he was? Are we too focused on own lives to notice?
I know some of you oppose the death penalty, but I believe it is just in exceptional cases. If he had been captured alive, I would have been willing to execute him without qualms nor hesitation.

Gent, with all due respect, I judge the VA Tech killer to be an evil heartless monster who needed to be destroyed. I don't care about his reasons, a dangerous animal must be destroyed. Period.

The problem is how do we identify evil monsters? They don't walk around with a sign. How many times have we heard people who personally knew serial killers or mass murderers describe them as perfectly normal, seemingly nice people? I'm very uneasy with the death penalty and don't support it except in extreme, heinous cases like this where there is no question of the person's guilt. If this person would have been caught and convicted I would have supported the death penalty for this case.

"How is it that the Virginia Tech shooter can walk about, unrecognized for the evil monster that he was?"
- maybe no one knew what the person looked like...
"Are we too focused on own lives to notice?"
- i must be on own lives to notice, because i dont know what the person looks like...
And to add a comment to your first statement, yes, let us destroy evil, u lead the way, "If he had been captured alive, I would have been willing to execute him without qualms nor hesitation." with a leader without qualms or hesitation, evil will surely be destroyed.

And what good would the death penalty do in a case such as this? He expected death. He sought death. He apparently killed himself. The death penalty isn't going to deter someone like this.
For evil to be destroyed after the fact doesn't prove much or have much effect. How are you going to destroy evil ahead of time? Can you recognize it in others? What if someone recognizes it in you and decides to rid the world of an evil doer before he commits his crime? Sucks for you, eh?

As usual, it's the parents. Here are your choices:
Bad example, in the first place, that is, taught the child how to be evil.
See the evil in the child, but too afraid or ignorant to deal with it.
See the evil, and are negative to the child, and that makes it worse.
See that the child is "hanging out" with someone evil, and doesn nothing to stop it.
Do not emphasize compassion, sacrifice and service. Probably demonstrate selfish tendecies themselves.

I think all the rapest and murders in prison need to be executed. We would have more money for the families they hurt and to feed our hungery. I understand it would include people that may have thought they killed for defence. But it would be worth the lives saved of the kids going to be hungery.
I know my feelings can not work in america but I have a right to state them at least.
This is a little strange to add here...but, I had a dream I killed Hitler. I was his cook and poisoned his soup. I woke up happy. Normally something bad like that I would be very very upset. But people like him....no.

You cant destroy evil!
Evil will always exist. W/out evil you cannot have good, you cant surely think that by destroying "evil", eveything will be hunky dory can you?
I mean, if you take away the evil of this world, everything would be....dead.
Is it evil if a man, whos child was slain @ the hands of a madman, took the law into his own hands, and decides to torture him before he dies?
Is it evil if a woman goes out and sells herself to feed and clothe a child for which she loves?
Now,... take for instance, yesterday; the gunman killed 2 people 2 hours before going on his massacre, I dont think he was being "evil" when he did so. I think he was just in a jealous rage; therefore knowing he would be caught, he decided to go and kill more people because he knew that it would end up w/ him doing time or being killed himself.
Yeah,... its f**ked up, and very sad, but I dont think it was "evil".
Evil is a dictator overthrowing a land and trying to mold it into what he wants. So be it, if thousands die, he'll have his land and he'll have control thru fear. He'll even have his own family killed to get where he wants,.......thats "evil"!

Unfortunately, evil people look just like any other people. Let's wait & find out if there was anything in his background that people should have noticed.

"Evil" people do not look like a crazy person hiding in the bushes wearing a trenchcoat. They look like you and me. That's why they're able to walk around un-noticed.

Not evil, just a tragic example of the human condition and what can happen in appalling circumstances.
I believe that he wasn't born evil, perhaps a genetic defect or product of violent environment. something went wrong but I don't believe that we can be so quick to judge the killer.
