There can be but only if you aren't so down that you can't think. It can be a time of reflection and a time of resolution. Why are you down. What is it that you need to change in you or your situation so that you aren't feeling this way.

Yes because what goes up must come down, and what goes down must and will come back up again. When we are down in the dumps its hard to look at the bright side of anything, but if you try to think about what it is in your life that you are grateful for and concentrate on that, instead of stewing on whatever has gotten you feeling down, you will slowly rise above the sadness and your days will again start to feel more pleasant, because you are dealing with and coping with "life"just the way it is supposed to be,happy, sad, and full of imperfections. If we didn't know what it was like to be "down" then we couldn't truly experience the "joy" when we are feeling up.

Yes there is an upside to being down and a downside to being up, providing the downside of being up has taught us to be on the upside when we are on the downside of being up, then we will be on the upside of being down when the downside of being up is with us.

hhhmmm...emotionally, if you're down, i can't see an upside to it. physically, if you're skydiving and your parachute doesn't work, there may or may not be an upside to being down. if you're at a ballgame, and you reach down to tie your shoe and miss the fly ball that whizzes over your head, that would be a definite upside to being down. of course if it's the going down that you love, that in itself would make being down worth it...lol

Somehow, being down is comforting, and I know that if I just hang in there long enough I'll feel up again.

Yes, sometimes you can learn a lesson from it. Also if you don't know what being depressed is, you can't appreciate what happy is.
