With alternating current (AC) the electrons (amps) actually reverse / alternates direction , in standard American homes it alternates 60 times per sec (60 hertz) .
With direct current (DC) the electrons travel in one direction only (example , a battery) and were it to reverse it would kill the battery .

pal, i think to study things, refer the web dedicated to those subjects. Here it is only to get opinions from many people and to analyze. Some may tell something wrong, correct or mislead you. Never use answers.yahoo for studies. Just use it to get opinions.

About AC and DC, it is a big story. Check internet :D
