going houseboats? Not just houseboats used on rivers and lakes, but are actually used on the oceans?

You've asked a really good question. I can't find any source. I know 20 some years ago they had House races from Florida to the Bahamas. Haven't seen anything about that in years.

My suggestion would be to contact a Houseboat rental company in a known severe environment and ask what they have available for offshore use. They would not put you in a boat unless they were confident you would return it.
