some people like them from complete strangers....why? actually right now i could use a hug...

Hugs are a wonderful means of communication and display of love, caring, consoling or high level friendship.
A nice long one whilst applying equal pressure with your arms and hands wrapped around them tightly.
Long enough to feel them breath several times within your grasp.

It has something to do with the sense of touch.
Not only humans, see cats and dogs, they too like to rub against you. Want touch of some time.
A hug brings comfort.
I am not the 'hug' type except for very close family.
I wish you lots of hugs. Sorry, I don't hug strangers, or even known people. So this is no slight. Even on paper.
You seem to need comforting.
