Circumference= pi*diameter
30= pi*diameter
Solve for the radius: 30/ pi= diameter

Your answer is G.
Although, I would think the basketball hoop has to be slightly larger than the ball in order for it to fit.

Circumference of a circle is π*diameter, so if circumference is 30, then diameter of the basketball is 30 / π inches = approximately 9.5 inches. I don't know if the author of this question knows too much about basketball, but the hoop's diameter has to be somewhat larger than the basketball's diameter, so technically [G] isn't really answering the question. The "d" in F and H are smaller than the basketball's diameter, so those answers are out. That leaves only J as being bigger than the basketball's diameter, but it's WAAAAAYYYY bigger (like 47 inches compared to less than 10 for the b'ball). So I will have to assume the author doesn't know what s/he's talking about and thinks the ball's diameter can equal the hoop and begrudgingly say [G].

The moral of the story is even if you're a math geek, you still should know something about sports!! ;-)

ball diameter = 30/pi inches. The loop diameter has to be LARGER that that... let's check the solutions:

F: 30/pi * 2 is twice as large as the ball.
G: 30/pi is the same size as the ball... too tight to play.
H: 30 = pi*d*2 → d = 30/(2pi) is only half the size of the ball
J: 30pi = 2d → d = 30pi/2 is even larger than F.

So I would go with F because you can't make a decent dunk with G.

Circumference, c = 2 pi x r, where r is radius
r = c / (2 x pi), but diameter,d = 2 x r
So diameter d = c / pi = 30 / pi

Ans: G

I suspect you are in elementary school, but you should learn some proper terms;
First, pi (the greek letter to represent 3.14etc.) is not pie. Second, use x for times and / to mean divide.
Your answer is G. pi x d = 30

Since pi multiplied by d is the circumference, you go 30/pi and the answer is 9.55. So the answer is G.

G. Since pi x d = circumference.

G) 30/pi = d

C = pi*d
d = C/pi = 30/pi
