That's what I kept getting, the xample is from my chem book for solving an ice chart and it is wrong. No wonder, I thought I was losing it. Thanks!

First, multiply the (.5-x) over to the other side of the equation:
7.37(.5-x)=2x

Distribute the 7.37:

3.685-7.37x=2x

Add the 7.37x to both sides to get the x terms together:

3.685=9.37x

Divide both sides by 9.37:

x= .393

you multiply by (0.5-x) on both sides=
7.37(0.5-x)= 2x
3.685- 7.37x=2x
add 2 on both sides
3.685=9.37x
divide by 9.37
x=0.393

first, multiply both sides by (.5-x)

7.37(.5-x) = 2x
distribute
3.685 - 7.37x = 2x

add 7.37x to both sides

3.685 = 9.37x
divide by 9.37

x = .393

get rid of the denominator by multiplying both sides by (0.5-x)
7.37(0.5-x) = 2x
7.37*0.5 = -5.37x
(7.37*0.5)/(-5.37) = x

multiply both sides by .5 -x

7.37(.5 - x) = 2x
3.685 - 7.37x = 2x
3.685 = 9.37x

x = 3.685 / 9.37 = 3.93
