nappy headed hoes
it was not racist, but some thought it was sexist
he was fired because a white 60 year old does not have the same freedom of speech that a 30 year old dj has, nor does he have the same freedom of speech that a black person has
in america we are all created equal, some are just more equal than others

I believe the wording was: "Those nappy headed ho's were workin' hard!".
Now on to why he was fired. His advertisers bailed on him and money talks (that's the real reason). Also I read that fellow high ranking Time Warner employees demanded action. But I think it really boiled down to money being the reason why he was fired. Before his advertisers bailed his "punishment" was a 2 week suspension.
I don't think that Don Imus is a hard core racist. I think he just used a racially charged message for shock value - and it backfired on him. The word "nappy" is a racial word and "ho" is a sexist term - so it is inappropriate for a broadcaster to use those terms.
I would have been satisfied with the suspension and the apology that he gave (which I believe was accepted by the Rutger's team - who were the actual victims).
Who knows maybe he'll go into stand up comedy now...

He referred the the Rutgers Women's Basketball Team as "Nappy Headed Hoes." I don't know why he said that. I believe that the team lost the championship and that may have started it. Also, the majority of the team is black.
Should he have been fired? It's a hard call for me. The team and the coach forgave him and Imus apologized so I think that was enough. But, on the other hand, freedom of speech is very powerful. Making insensitive comments could affect ones confidence.

Don Imus called the Rutgers Womens basketball team, "nappy haired ho's" Do I think this is wrong? Oh yeah on so many levels. Do I think he's a scapegoat, yes. I don't know exactly what punishment he should endure, but there are so many people out there who do this type of thing everyday. Look at the guy from Grey's Anatomy calling his co-star a "******". Look at Mel Gibson's drunk episode calling I believe making racial slurrs against Jewish people. There careers are still moving forward as per the norm. Don Imus was very wrong in saying that and I certainly don't think it's acceptable, he does deserve punishment of some kind but he also is a scapegoat.

He called the Women's Rutgers BBall team Nappy Headed Hoes. No he shouldn't have been fired. People make mistakes and look at Sharpton and Jackson they were ready to butcher the Duke Lacrosse players before they even went to trial all because the girl was black and they were white! She ended up being the liar! They should be apologizing the the Duke players! I wish they would strip those two from ever being on TV again they are obnoxious and are only in it for political gain!

I think he definitely should have been fired, but not just because of that incident. He's been saying worse things, but because of the publicity surrounding the game, it drew more attention than he normally gets. Personally, I say it's about time.
People need to remember though, even if words are offensive, we still have freedom of speech and need to protect that right before it is gone due to being overly sensitive. I think the rumor of suing him is going too far, and it is an infringement on Imus's personal rights if he does end up getting sued.
People should keep guarded language in public places, or suffer some consequences.

He called them Nappy *** hos.
I don't think he should have said it at all, but I also do not think he should be fired for this. This proves to me that Freedom of Speech is no longer allowed in America. I mean just because you have the right of Freedom of Speech does not mean you should exercise it, but now it looks like we can't. No Don Imus should not have said it but to get fired over it? Donald Trump did not get in trouble when he called Rosie a Fat Pig.

the responce of the blacks to what amos said was so far off base its crazy . the man clearly had an interest in black culture and so watched rap crap. he learned the frase nappy headed hoe's from watching rap crap . no white person would know such a term unless they had dealings with rap crap .
clearly the blacks need to learn that the solution to thier problems is to learn to accept that they are their own worst enemy.
if the man was to be punished for anything it should have been that he left the white girl team members out of his praise.
blacks must stop this crazy crap and learn that in the very near future people all people are going to say enough .
koreans come to america cant speak english get jobs buy corner stores in the ghetto and work long long hours to get ahead . what happens they get robbed by blacks .
when a riot of blacks takes place as it did this last time the blacks wrecked there own community stores why because they dont own them or work in them and the only reason they dont work there or own the stores is pure lazy poor me thinking.
i predict riots in the very near future with people of all races going agaist the blacks in america . the only ones that might side with the blacks are the muslims . other then them i think soon all the other people of every other race will say enough of this poor me crap and enough of being told what they can say when the blacks are free to say whatever they please.
yes riots are soon to come .
the black leaders should forget about what others are doing and work on what the blacks are doing.
another thing how come no other race in north america has so called leaders. gee i wonder is it because they dont protest so much and are not themselfs so racist as to think they need a leader of thier own.

I think he should've been fired for losing an audience and sponsors. I don't think the radio and TV station should've let Jessie Jackson bully them into firing him.
BTW: Of course Imus is creep and what he said was wrong.

He was on a live radio station and he happend to say and i quote " nappy headed hoe's"
I dont believe there was any right to fire him, Maybe take him off the air for 2 wks like they were going to but what they have done is just crazy..
When your on live things do slip out and he did appologize after for saying it..
Personally I think the station should think about what is going to happen to their ratings..
On one more note, He has said alot of things about other races, including whites, bi's, gays, orental, ect... in the past and this has never happened and it just hits me a little wrong that because it has to do with blacks (and people please dont take offense cause im not prejudice at all..) all this happened..
