Dispose of the bulb, and the vacuum bag. The level of mercury inside a flourescent bulb is very small. Unless you licked the inside of the bulb, I wouldn't worry about a casual and infrequent exposure to this. You will be fine.

Some of the new bulbs are more eco friendly, but anyway, back to your problem.
Take a damp cloth and clean the area to make sure it is clean and all the dust is gone. Then I would change the bag in the vacuum and throw the old one away. If you had carpets in the room, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have them cleaned or if you have one of the residential carpet shampooers then use it.

Off the subject, but those carpet shampooers are about the most useful gadget they have going. They are great, and I strongly recommend getting one. If you spill something, or you have a pet, or break a fluorescent light bulb, then clean up is no problem

the mercury vapor is out, but there are still bad things in there and It shouldn't be disposed of in regular trash. take the vacuum bag and dispose of it as hazardous material.

Check with your home improvement/hardware store or contact your township or waste disposal contractor. It should go the way of paints, chemicals, batteries, regular fluorescent bulbs, computer parts, etc.

It's possible your waste carrier has a special schedule for picking up this kind of waste. It should be clearly marked as such when you put it out, too.

It's only one bulb right now, but these are becoming more popular and the public isn't educated enough on proper disposal.

Meanwhile, remove the bag and put it in a plastic bag, so you don't plow phosphorous and other crap around when you vacuum.

vacuum the glass you. Turn off the power to the light. (hopefully done) Spray the area with half Murphy's oil and half water . Let stand for 5 min the Spray with Windex. Wipe clean. Make sure all glass is up first. This will stop the chemical reaction that is going on in the padding below the carpet. If on vinyl or wood just use ammonia.

Just sweep it up and throw it in the trash.
Ever since flourescent lights have been made , they have been thrown in the trash, the billions of new ones will also end up in the trash, there is no other way for a homeowner to get rid of them.

If you can find the carton the bulb was in, it might have a number for hazardous materials or the manufacturer. Just call and tell them your concerns.
