G'Day from Sydney,
First of all, unless insanity runs in Your family, which part of the offer are You thinking about? Yes You can live rather well on $80,000.oo to $85,000.oo per year. The main factors are accommodation and lifestyle expenses. 30 is a great age to be out partying in Sydney. (I assume that You have been known to take the occasional drink). Do Yourself a big favor before You get here:
1) Get on the Internet and check out rental prices. Just punch in "Rental Accommodation in Sydney" and go for it.
2) Make sure that Your International Driver's License is up to date. We drive on the other side of the road. Can be tricky to the uninitiated.
3) Familiarize Yourself with the Sydney Metropolitan Area (It is bigger than Rhode Island). Sydney is not just the Central Business District. It extends inland some 60 miles in all directions.
4) Confirm Your banking arrangements. The Aus$ to US$ rate of exchange is in Your by approximately 20%. You will need credit references and documentation, etc. if You choose to rent a flat.
5) Go to the following sites for additional information.
Transport: www.cityrail.nsw.gov.au
Activities: www.sydneyweekender.com.au
Real Estate: www.ljhooher.com.au
Tourism: www.tourismnsw.com.au
Partying: www.australianhotelsassociation.com
That should give You a good heads up on Sydney. Cheers!

Relax on sun-drenched beaches, eat at award-winning restaurants and a lot more is what you will get in your visit to Sydney. Find more with hotelbye . Among the world's great symbols and a definitely should see in Sydney could be the Sydney Opera House, a location is really a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the celebrity interest on the glittering harbour. This elegant making, shaped like covers or billowing sails, perches on a finger of area surrounded by water. Sydney is just a special place to pay your vacation so, do not lose the ability to see a great city.

80 grand will do you fine, some families of 4 that I know live well on that amount including a mortgage. Sydney is a great city, someone mentioned their sister living in Bondi and it being an hour out of Sydney, this is true only if you were to walk there backwards, you can drive to Bondi from the city in about 20mins in peak hour. You'd do well to rent a place in the Eastern Suburbs (Bondi, Bronte, Coogee are all beach suburbs, Paddington is a little closer to the city but full of nightlife, dining etc) or the inner west suburbs of Balmain or Glebe (a bit grittier but also a bit quieter and away from the backpackers somewhat). 30 is a great age to be doing this, I'm jealous!

Don't get too excited, $80k is not much more than the average salary in Sydney.
The first expense you will face is income tax. If you elect to be taxed as an Australian Resident you will pay $21,000 of income tax (including medicare levy). That leaves you with $59,000.
To rent a basic unfurnished one bedroom apartment in a good area will cost at least $300 per week, if you can find one. That is another $16,000.
Private health insurance will cost at least $1,000 a year.
Telephone, Electricity and Natural Gas would cost probably around $2,000 a year.
Basic food/groceries, public transport etc you would be ok with $200 per week.
That would leave you with around $500 per week for fun stuff.
So provided you don't have any expensive vices you will be fine.

First of all congratulations. Sydney is a beautiful city and if you like the beach....you'll find it is gorgeous and easy to get to.
My sister moved to Bondi Beach (1 hr out of Sydney) when she graduated college and now 20 years later she's still there...married, working and kids. I've visited and can speak of what I saw. It's so nice, similar to the US but people are friendlier. You can live on that without any problem.

Gee if you dont want the job, then can i have it??
$80k a year is a fantastic wage, and you will be able to afford to live inner city with that kind of money.
Congratulations.
Friends of mine have just moved back to Texas from Oz and had a blast while they were here.

Since you don't have any one else to support it's a very comfortable wage to be on! Rent is probobly the most expensive and if you want to invest in property thats expensive to but on your salary and being single you should be able to live on half your wage and save the rest. Fantastic.

Take the job, you'd be crazy not to.
You'll do fine here on that money.
Best way to see the world is to be paid good money to do it.
