what are the symptoms of the transmission problem 2000 Odysseys had. I have a 2000 and want to get fixed but don't know if I am experiencing the symptoms.

I own a 2000 Honda Accord V6. It is among several models & years that share the same automatic transmission problem as with your Odyssey.

If you are the original owner, you should have received several notifications by mail (& even via e-mail) of the various issues related to this transmission problem. In fact, Honda just settled a class-action lawsuit, extending the initial warrenty to 105,000 miles (there are caveats that might to some vehicles/owners). BTW, Honda claims that the problem applies to about 5% of total owners of Honda/Acura models, primarily equipped with auto trannies mated to V6 engines.

You should find a lot of useful information by simply doing a GOOGLE domain search under 'Honda transmission recall' or problems.

Also, I recall the Honda service/recall bulletin stated that hard shifts, failure to shift into certain gears,& slippage are among the symptoms some experienced. What research I've done seems to indicate that in some vehicles, there were defects in the assembly of the certain components of the transmission. Another explanation is that there is a defect in the design & assembly of the 2nd gear clutch pack.

The installation of a secondary transmission cooler would not hurt...these accessories will cost ~ $500 installed, but work to extend the life of your transmission by lower operating temperature...temperature is an enemy of your transmission.

Odysseys are notorious for transmission problems. There are a number of symptoms, they include hard shurting from gear to gear, hesitation when shifting, also, check the transmission fluid. If it hasn't been changed in a while and you have 100,000+ miles, I suggest not having changed, when those trannys get that many miles on them, the transmission fluid holds in part that keep the transmission running better, I know it sounds crazy, but that is what our service advisors would tell our customers. Your best bet if you think that you are having a problem is to have your Honda dealer look at it, and you may want to buy an extended warranty if you don't have one, transmission jobs cost about $750.00 and you don't have your car for about a week, most Honda dealers provide loaner cars though.
