I had testing and my initial tests were positive for neural tube defects. As a first time mom, I didn't know what to do or think. I ended up being considered high risk due to this factor and blood pressure concerns of my ob. My ob ordered a high risk ultrasound, amnio, and a genetic workup. This ultrasound was really thorough and looked at all major organs, brain function, etc. My doctor was able to see a blockage on the baby's heart, which was more than likely calcium. Well, at 5 to 6 months pregnant that is a very stressful issue. It sparked a lot of questions and agony, but the doctor's just wanted to take a wait and see approach, since this problem normally clears up by itself. My son was born healthy and after a once over, given a clean bill of health. My suggestion to you is to keep doing what you are doing. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Best of Luck to you!

I had 4 pregnancys, I had the test done for all 4, all 4 said they would be mentally retarded or have down syndrome. I gave birth to 4 healthy babies with NO problems. They are all now ages 3-12 and they still have no issues. My doctor says that they shouldnt go by those tests due to several things that could make the results wrong.

I had all of the prenatal screening done and my Alpha feta protein test came back abnormal. That's the test for Spina bifida/down syndrome. Baby was watched very closely and I had ultrasounds very frequently. Alot of stress for nothing. My daughter didn't have spina bifida or down syndrome. After researching it I realized it's an 80 % false positive for that test. Wish I would have known in the first place and I probably would have opted out of the test.

Hi. I had an amnio because I was thirty nine when I was pregnant. It wasn't as bad a I thought it would be and went well. They gave me the run down of the chances of losing the baby after the amnio. My son was born beautiful and healthy.
