That depends on the baby. I always breastfeed on demand.

Don't worry about the frequency. Your baby will somehow send you an indication. As your baby grows older, he will demand for more. His intake volume had increased. Only feed him solid food if he has shown sign of nimbling and has shown interest in the food you have taken. If your breastmilk quanity is not enough to hold your bb's demand, you may want to supplement with some quanitity of formula milk or increase your frequency of feed. the second option would be the best if you have abundant of time.

At 7 months old you should be introducing a regular solid feed regime. Solid foods three times daily, after a breast feed, He should be nursing 4-5 times a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner, one breast feed before bed and one if he still wakes up for a night feed. Also maybe one breast feed in the middle of the afternoon. 3 breast feeds a day is also normal if he is really taking to solid food.

There's no "should" about it - you feed your baby as you see fit. By seven months though, the baby should be reasonable established on solids, and will not have the same need for your milk nutritionally, but probably more emotionally. I fed my children to ten months, but by seven months they were only being fed as part of their bedtime routine, and this was the hardest thing to stop! Neither of mine were keen on a bottle, so when it came to finally stopping, I used to give them milky weetabix at bedtime instead.

Nurse on demand is the simple answer. If you are trying to cut back on nursing - offer more solids. Contact your local LLL leader - www.lalecheleague.org
