Paloma means Dove in Spanish. I have a friend named Paloma. Her family calls her Lomi and her sisters call her Lola. I think it is a beautiful name. It is ethnic sounding, but even if you have never heard it before you can pronounce it phoenetically and get it right.

I don't know what other names are in the running, but I would keep this one in mind.

Good luck and congratulations!!

It's different in a good way. I don't think I would name my daughter Paloma since it's not really my taste, but I think it's a good name. And if I knew a Paloma, I would probably call her Pally, which I think is cute... I also like that Picasso's daughter was named Paloma, that's a cool little fact that I would brag about if my name was Paloma. I also like its meaning and the fact that it's Spanish (only b/c that's the only language besides English that I know a lot of words). Good name.. :)

Paloma is a unique and unusual name befitting a daughter of a very unique and unusual artist.
There is no nick name for Paloma and the suggestions some others have made are ridiculous . I would never wish to be called by any of them.

I think that your child might have a difficult time later on in life when she is school age and I also caution parents about remembering what their initials might be too.
For example : If your last name is Smith and you name your child Paloma Sierra Smith she would be PSS....

Initially "Paloma" made me imagine an animal, to be honest. However, I actually think it's a very pretty, creative, original name. She would always have the advantage of being the only "Paloma" in her classrooms in school. Hehe. Nicknames could consist of Pal, Loma, Lomi.

Congrats on having a baby! I'm sure you'll have a beautiful, happy family together.

Check out above site: It has the origin of the name Paloma. Means DOVE in Spanish.

***Now, I think I would only consider calling my daughter this name if I had some ethnic background to back it up. I don't dislike the name though - just that I wouldn't expect to see it on an American (white) gal (if you catch me...)

A nickname could be anything you desire..... not sure what I'd call her that generated from the name Paloma though.***

Difficult name to live with. It is ethnic sounding. Is you last name ethnic sounding? Also it is three syllables. Paloma Picasso is a mouthful Pablo Picasso flows better two syllable first three syllable last.

Not knowing your last name it is hard to answer this question.
A three syllable first name works well with a one syllable last name like Paloma Wells. But not so well with two or three syllable last names Paloma Johnson or Paloma Wilkinson.

Watch the flow. The first and last should suit each other.

OK. No offense, but I really don't like that name at all. But you'll have an easier time of it if you try to find a name that's meaningful to you - not just pretty sounding. Did a favorite relative have a name you like? how about a favorite literary or biblical character? Is there a flower or month that has special meaning to you? What about a name that's meaningful to your relationship with your husband? Did you get married in April? I have a friend named Autumn for that reason and I think that is just beautiful.
Congrats and good luck!

Paloma is a great name -- pretty, original and not likely to be forgotten! Also, there's not much chance of it being mispronounced by teachers, etc. (My name is Theresa and many people who don't know me, but see the spelling, pronounce the "Th" as it is in "Theodore." Who ever heard of "The-ree-sa?")

As for a nickname, Paloma would seem to lend itself to the nickname of "Pal," which I think is cute for a girl.

Best wish for you and your new family!
